Description
Make teaching French reading comprehension in your core French or French immersion class so much easier with these differentiated activities! This set includes 10 French texts with differentiated questions so that you can easily offer just the right challenge to your core French, FSL or French immersion students. With these no-prep activities, this is perfect for centers or substitute days, too!
Foster a love of reading in your core French or French immersion class with easy-to-use French reading comprehension worksheets that were created just for beginning readers. Each text includes 3 different levels of questions, so you can easily use the same passage with different ability groups and grade levels. Students will love that these activities are just at their level, meaning that reading is less intimidating and a lot more fun!
Who are these French reading comprehension activities best for?
These questions are appropriate for beginning core French and FSL students as well as French immersion classes beginning to work on reading comprehension. Check the images to assess the difficulty level and see if it meets your needs.
How are these different from French reading set 1?
The vocabulary used is still appropriate for beginners, but the vocabulary is slightly more challenging. If your students are just starting out with reading activities, you might prefer set 1. In addition to common vocabulary like school supplies, clothing, animals, and sports, you’ll find some 4 season-themed activities.
Use these differentiated French reading for beginners with your different proficiency levels.
Each French reading passage includes:
- Short answer English questions and students can answer in English : These questions will be the easiest for true beginners in core French or FSL.
- Short answer French questions : This has the same style of questions as the English, however, the questions are in French and students are directed to answer in French. These are best for your more-advanced learners or French immersion classes.
- Multiple choice questions in French : Occasionally, students will locate specific information in the text (such as adjectives or certain verb tenses). These are great for any level, as the questions are a bit different than the short answer versions.
You can choose all one version for a class, but I like to use different versions based on student levels so that differentiation is super-easy! You can always print 2 versions back-to-back and let students choose their own activity.
This resource includes the following French reading passages:
- Au marché
- Dans mon sac à dos
- Mes sports préférés
- En hiver
- Au printemps
- En été
- En automne
- Mes animaux domestiques
- Je m’habille
- Le voyage de mes rêves

Includes teacher key. Also includes ideas for extending certain lessons with a bit of culture.
⚠️These French reading comprehension activities are not editable and will not be provided in an editable format. Thank you for understanding.

Originally reviewed on TPTThis is a great resource for reading comprehension assessments. I can pick which type of questions I want my students to answer and can customize it to match their levels and the stories are small enough that the students are not being overwhelmed by a large text.

Originally reviewed on TPTAs a Core French teacher I find there is very limited reading comprehension texts available that are actually easy to read, interesting and culturally relevant. I love using these reading comprehension activities with my FSL students because I am able to mark them and use them as an assessment.

Originally reviewed on TPTThese were great French reading passages! Students were able to read and answer questions independently. I liked that we were also able to read them together, and highlight the main ideas as we read. The kids liked the layout of the sheet as well.
