Description
Want a fun and festive way to improve French reading comprehension with your core French and French immersion students? These 10 French reading passages are the perfect way to help your beginning students read more. Each holiday-themed French reading activity includes 3 versions of the student question sheets.
Your students will love reading these French texts as a way to enrich their French vocabulary about holidays. These differentiated activities will make your job so much easier, because you’ll use the same text with all students but you can provide them with just the right level of questions so all students are challenged!
Teach core French and French immersion? You can use these texts with both groups, so your planning is that much easier!
These French reading comprehension activities are appropriate for beginning Core French students and immersion classes beginning to work on comprehension. These passages are intended for first or second year students.
Grade level will vary based on when students began studying French. See the preview to determine if the grade level is appropriate for your students.
Use these differentiated French reading comprehension activities with your different proficiency levels.
Each reading passage includes:
- Short answer English questions and students can answer in English : These questions will be the easiest for Core French beginners.
- Short answer French questions : This has the same style of questions as the English, however, the questions are in French and students are directed to answer in French. These are best for your more-advanced learners or French immersion classes.
- Multiple choice questions in French : Occasionally, students will locate specific information in the text. These are great for any level, as the questions are a bit different than the short answer versions.
You can choose all one version for a class, but I like to use different versions based on student levels so that differentiation is super-easy! You can always print 2 versions back-to-back and let students choose their own activity.
What do teachers say about these activities?

Originally reviewed on TPTI LOVE that the questions are differentiated, making it super easy to do the same passage with split classes and still reach everyone. I have used a few, not all of them and have been very satisfied with the quality. My only complaint is that in the Earth Day passage, it says “c’est annee” when really, it should be “cette annee” about halfway through the paragraph. – My students are too low to catch the difference, but it is a change I would like to see!

Originally reviewed on TPTGood challenging level for my grade 3s. Thus far we’ve used Christmas, Valentines Day and will be using Easter this week. Am looking forward to using them for Earth Day and Mother’s Day too.

Originally reviewed on TPTAs always this resource is super! It would be nice if one day it could include more holidays from more cultures/faiths – in the name of inclusivity. Not withstanding that suggestion, I really like these and they save me so much time!
