Description
French Plus-Que-Parfait Activities for Intermediate French
Help students understand and use the plus-que-parfait to talk about actions that had already happened before another event in the past.
This resource gives intermediate French students opportunities to practice the tense in a variety of contexts, moving from guided activities to more independent use. Rather than focusing only on conjugation, students work with the plus-que-parfait as part of meaningful sentences and communication.
Students review how the tense is formed and then apply it with avoir and être, irregular past participles, negative sentences, and reflexive verbs. Speaking, reading, writing, and review activities give students repeated opportunities to recognize and produce the tense.
Inside the resource, you’ll find:
- Clear explanations and examples
- Guided practice with the plus-que-parfait
- Practice with avoir and être
- Irregular past participles
- Negative and reflexive forms
- Reading comprehension activities
- Speaking and communication activities
- Writing practice
- Verb review and games
- Exit tickets and quizzes
- Teacher directions and answer keys
- French and English versions of the explanations
These activities are designed for intermediate Core French, FSL, and French immersion students and can be used when introducing the plus-que-parfait, reinforcing it after instruction, or reviewing it later in the year.
The goal is to help students move beyond memorizing the formula and actually understand when and why French speakers use the plus-que-parfait.
