7 Fun Passé Composé Songs for French Class

French passé composé songs for the classroom

Need some passé composé songs to help your French students with conjugation and meaning of this important tense? Music is an amazing way to make grammar more meaningful for our students! I use French songs in class ALL the time with these fun French music activities to get students engaged!

As with any French songs you play in class, make sure these passé composé songs are appropriate for your students before you play them in class!

Check out this passé composé songs list to find a new song to play in class!

Ma journée – Alain le lait

This is one of the best passé composé songs to play if you are looking for a way to see avoir and être verbs in context! It’s definitely an educational video, unlike the rest of these popular French songs with the passé composé, but I do think it’s great for students of all ages to help them master verb conjugation!

La même – Gims featuring Vianney

I love these two artists so much that it’s amazing to have a song with both of them! I love that this song has a few irregular past participles plus a few French verbs using être. I’ve never taught a class that doesn’t absolutely adore Gims, so this French song is sure to be a win with lots of students!

Jusqu’au Bout – Amel Ben and Imen Es

Amel Bent has been a favorite of mine for years, so I was excited to find some good passé composé examples in this song. This song is great for showing both negation and pronoun placement with the passé composé.

J’ai cherché – Amir

I like this French song a lot! It’s catchy and there are multiple verbs used in the passé composé, so students can see the verbs used in context, making it a lot more meaningful than just memorizing them from a list! The video is empowering and I think it will really resonate with the teens in your French class!

J’ai demandé à la lune – Indochine

This song has been a favorite of mine for decades, so it brings back a lot of memories whenever I have played it in class. It was a huge hit of theirs, so it may already be on your playlist. If not, it’s one of my favorite passé composé songs that would be great to add to your list! There’s also a really beautiful acapella version by a few of the girls from Kids United that you can find on YouTube if you want a short and simple version.

Dernier métro – Kendju Girac avec Gims

There are a few sentences using the passé composé in this French song, but it’s great for comparing the passé composé and the imparfait. I love that it shows an example of using an adverb between the auxiliary and the past participle, but I’ll be honest when I’m saying I included it on my list of passé composé songs because it’s just such a good song that it should be part of your playlist whether you’re studying the past tense right now or not!

Pas fatigué – Nassi

This French song only has a few verbs in the passé composé, but it’s definitely worth showing the video in class! The message of the song is all about being perseverant and giving it your all, and that is something we can all aspire to! The young dancers in the video are really talented, too, so it’s just fun to watch.

I hope you found a few new passé composé songs to play in your French class!
