Ways to use these passé composé practice activities

Use the materials throughout your passé composé lessons to introduce concepts, provide extra practice, encourage students to speak French, review before an assessment, or offer additional activities for students who need more repetition.

The variety of formats makes it easier to alternate between individual practice, partner work, movement games, and digital learning.

Who are these resources for?

These activities are suitable for secondary Core French and FSL classes, as well as middle school French immersion. Use them when teaching the passé composé or when students need additional opportunities to practise and review the past tense.

With a combination of structured exercises and engaging games, you can spend less time preparing activities and more time helping students develop their French skills.

Please note: Reflexive verb resources are not included in this version of the collection.

To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for modern Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. For security and privacy, adults must have a Boom Learning account to use and assign Boom Cards. You will be able to assign the Boom Cards you are buying with “Fast Pins,” (a form of play that gives instant feedback to students for self-grading Boom Cards). For assignment options that report student progress back to you, you will need to purchase a subscription. If you are new to Boom Learning, you will be offered a free trial.Readhere for details: http://bit.ly/BoomTrial.

⚠️Boom Learning has begun to limit the number of free plays per month you can individually assign. If you do not wish to have a paid account, I recommend projecting the cards onto your interactive whiteboard for whole-class play instead of using the fast pins.

We paired this resource with another one to help us learn and practice Passe Compose effectively and in an engaging way. My students had a great time using the activities from here and it produced improved results from most of my students. A great variety of lessons and activities that flowed well into our classroom environment. My students in Grade 5 had great success with this unit!

I wish I could honestly say that all my students loved this, but every teacher has his dissenters – we can´t please everyone. I, on the other hand, had fun with this and saved a ton of time while updating some ancient material. I really enjoyed the speaking activities and will be supplementing with the Boom cards and Scoot as review activities throughout the year. Merci beaucoup!

I used this both virtually and in person, and it really helps with passé composé, which can be a tricky concept for learners

What an excellent resource! Mme R really knows how to put it all together. I introduce passé composé in Grade 9 and this is exactly what I need to do that. The students get booklets, which I print on coloured paper, games activities, task cards etc. It makes it so easy for me and clear and fun for the students.

This is an excellent comprehensive resource. The slideshow, activities and boom cards all work together to explain, check student understanding and reinforce the concept. I have so many mini lessons that I use to teach the passe compose, but this ties everything together.

This is an excellent repository of activities- I will only need to supplement with some reading and listening activities to make this review / practice of the passé composé complete! I will be using this resource every year for French 2-4- there’s something for everyone here!
