Ways to use these passé composé practice activities

Use the materials throughout your passé composé lessons to introduce concepts, provide extra practice, encourage students to speak French, review before an assessment, or offer additional activities for students who need more repetition.

The variety of formats makes it easier to alternate between individual practice, partner work, movement games, and digital learning.

Who are these resources for?

These activities are suitable for secondary Core French and FSL classes, as well as middle school French immersion. Use them when teaching the passé composé or when students need additional opportunities to practise and review the past tense.

With a combination of structured exercises and engaging games, you can spend less time preparing activities and more time helping students develop their French skills.

Please note: Reflexive verb resources are not included in this version of the collection.

To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for modern Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. For security and privacy, adults must have a Boom Learning account to use and assign Boom Cards. You will be able to assign the Boom Cards you are buying with “Fast Pins,” (a form of play that gives instant feedback to students for self-grading Boom Cards). For assignment options that report student progress back to you, you will need to purchase a subscription. If you are new to Boom Learning, you will be offered a free trial.Readhere for details: http://bit.ly/BoomTrial.

⚠️Boom Learning has begun to limit the number of free plays per month you can individually assign. If you do not wish to have a paid account, I recommend projecting the cards onto your interactive whiteboard for whole-class play instead of using the fast pins.

It is very thorough, easy for the kids to follow, and saves a TON of prep time. I can’t speak highly enough about this resource. Whether you’re introducing your students to passé composé or simply reviewing it, you need this.

Mme R to the rescue again! The passé composé pack is an essential–headed now to buy the imparfait! The BOOM cards are the best–even my students who traditionally struggle with mechanics are getting SO much better, and they say how much they like them. The SCOOT cards don’t work in the intended way during the Pandemic so I have learned to use them as prompts within an assessment housed by GoFormative. The speaking prompts can be a great way to reintroduce question structures, too. And yes, the difference between avoir and être is clear: separate at first, then a challenging sequence to distinguish them.

I used this with my level 3s for a review and will be using it later to introduce the passé conposé with my level 2. As usual, Ashley’s materials are amazing.

Very thorough as always. Your products are great for in class instruction and my rating is not for distance learning as I have not used virtually yet.

As always, Mme R’s resources are thorough and well-done. We’ve used some of these activities as review at the beginning of the year and they are super easy to use and minimal copying as prep. They’re fairly easy to convert and put on a learning management system too. The included Boom cards are good for asynchronous learning.
