Description
Make teaching French reading comprehension in your core French or French immersion class so much easier with these differentiated activities! This set includes 10 French texts with differentiated questions so that you can easily offer just the right challenge to your core French, FSL or French immersion students. With these no-prep activities, this is perfect for centers or substitute days, too!
Foster a love of reading in your core French or French immersion class with easy-to-use French reading comprehension worksheets that were created just for beginning readers. Each text includes 3 different levels of questions, so you can easily use the same passage with different ability groups and grade levels. Students will love that these activities are just at their level, meaning that reading is less intimidating and a lot more fun!
Who is this French reading comprehension set good for?
These questions are appropriate for beginning core French and FSL students as well as French immersion classes beginning to work on reading comprehension. Check the images to assess the difficulty level and see if it meets your needs.
Use these differentiated French reading comprehension activities for beginners with your different proficiency levels.
Each passage includes:
- Short answer English questions and students can answer in English : These questions will be the easiest for true beginners in core French or FSL.
- Short answer French questions : This has the same style of questions as the English, however, the questions are in French and students are directed to answer in French. These are best for your more-advanced learners or French immersion classes.
- Multiple choice questions in French : Occasionally, students will locate specific information in the text (such as adjectives or certain verb tenses). These are great for any level, as the questions are a bit different than the short answer versions.
You can choose all one version for a class, but I like to use different versions based on student levels so that differentiation is super-easy! You can always print 2 versions back-to-back and let students choose their own activity.

This resource contains the following French reading passages:
- Je me présente
- Ma famille
- J’adore manger !
- Mes amis
- À l’école
- Chez moi
- Mes loisirs
- Ce week-end
- Ma ville
- Ma fête préférée
No English passages are included.
These French reading activities are perfect for:
- French reading assessments
- Sub folders
- Individual homework assignments
- Partnered practice activities
- Fast finishers

I used these for my core students. We used “mots amis” and “mots connus” as a reading strategy and they got the idea!

Originally reviewed on TPTGreat to use during a time filler
This resource allowed me to use it with my grade 6s to see where they were at for reading in a Core French room. I just met these students this year and wanted a small reding comprehension activity that tied into our Je me présente unit, worked out great!

Originally reviewed on TPTWell crafted!
Matches beginning themes in FSL. Differentiation allows my 9s and my 11s to use the same stories (less work for me).
A good way to remind older students of things they are supposed to know from previous years.
