French J’ai Qui a Game | Halloween Speaking Practice

$2.25

Get everyone speaking French with a Halloween-themed J’ai… Qui a… game! Students practice vocabulary, listening, and oral communication as they work together to complete the chain.

Description

Want to get your French students talking without a complicated lesson plan?

This French J’ai… Qui a… game for Halloween is a simple, engaging way to get students listening and speaking in French while reviewing seasonal vocabulary. Students follow the chain of cards around the room, listening for the question that matches the answer on their card.

It’s especially useful when you want students to use French aloud rather than simply complete another written activity.

How does J’ai… Qui a… work?

Each student receives a card with a French statement beginning with « J’ai… » and a question beginning with « Qui a… ? »

One student starts the chain by reading their card aloud. Another student listens for the question that matches what they have, then reads their card. The process continues until the entire class has participated and the chain returns to the beginning.

It’s easy to explain, keeps students listening to one another, and gives everyone a reason to participate.

Two levels of support

This resource includes two versions so you can adjust the activity to your students:

  • Supported version: Students see a complete French sentence along with the image. They will see the French word and the image, so students do not have to have the words all memorized.
  • More challenging version: Students use « J’ai… » and « Qui a… ? » with an image to help them understand the vocabulary. They must identify the French word by the image.

This makes it easy to choose the version that best fits your learners or even use different versions with different classes.

What’s included?

  • 30 Halloween-themed J’ai… Qui a… cards
  • Two levels of the activity
  • Printable French Halloween vocabulary page with images
  • Teacher directions in English

There are 30 cards, making the activity easy to use with a full class. If you have fewer students, some students can receive two cards; for larger classes, students can work in pairs.

When can you use it?

This is a great option for:

  • a French class warm-up
  • introducing or reviewing Halloween vocabulary
  • oral language practice
  • listening practice
  • partner or whole-class work
  • a quick activity before Halloween
  • a change of pace from written work
  • French classes that need more opportunities to speak

One teacher described it as a great way to get everyone talking in a low-pressure setting, while other teachers have used it as a warm-up and vocabulary review with students from elementary through high school.

A simple way to get students speaking

Sometimes the best speaking activities are the ones that don’t require a lot of explanation.

Print the cards, distribute them, and let the students create the chain. Once students know how J’ai… Qui a… works, you can reuse the format with different vocabulary and topics throughout the year.

This Halloween version gives you an easy way to add oral French practice to your October lessons while keeping students engaged and listening to one another.
