Looking for some French songs for spring? Bring some springtime joy into your French class with these spring-themed songs. I’ve started with songs for the youngest kids and added a few for older students. I love finding new French songs, and from the popularity of this post with a few of my favorite French songs, I think all French teachers love finding new music to play in class!
Jean de la lune
This is just a cute little French song from childhood that takes place in spring. It’s catchy and slow enough for young students.
Voici le mois de mai
This is another of my favorite French songs for spring. It is great for young students, especially for May 1st. It’s a sweet song about gathering flowers and giving them to someone.
À la volette
We sang this French song a lot with our son when he was little, and it is just such a sweet song. It’s full of passé composé verbs, including reflexive verbs, but if you have older kids, you might listen to it before using it to make sure it’s not too young for your class.
L’arbre est dans ses feuilles
This is one of my favorite French songs for spring! It is also pretty fast, but it repeats itself, so students can catch on. It’s got a fun, folk sound, and I think it’s fun to add some musical variety. It’s really fun to see if they can get all the way through it after a few tries.
C’est le Printemps- Henry Dès
This one is super-catchy, but it is really fast! You can listen to it with newer students if you have time where you just listen to music without a structured activity, perhaps during a snack break or another break time in the day. If you want to incorporate some of the vocabulary, your students should be pretty comfortable conversationally, or they might find this frustrating.
Le printemps – Matt Maxwell
I love Matt Maxwell’s songs, and this is one of my favorite French songs for spring because of all the spring-themed vocabulary and animals. It’s slow enough for kids to catch on, and if your students can read, it’s got lyrics. 🙂
Printemps – Cœur de pirate
This one isn’t exactly about spring, but it’s one of my favorite songs, and she is just a favorite of every high school class I’ve ever taught. Print off the lyrics and make a cloze activity for students.
Enfin le printemps – Edith Piaf
This one is great for older students. When I taught high schoolers, we listened to music every week, and Edith Piaf was a favorite of my students. I like to print off the lyrics to her songs before listening with students, because even advanced classes can struggle at times with her music if they don’t have the words to look at.
Aux arbres citoyens – Yannick Noah
I’ve mentioned this song before, because I just love it! Kids love it, you can use it with upper elementary, middle, and high school, and it’s got a great Earth Day theme. It’s one of my top French songs for spring because we do a French environment unit just in time for Earth Day.
