I love teaching using French Halloween activities as a fun way to mix up my lessons! It’s is my favorite holiday, and there are so many ways to have fun in French class during the Halloween season.
Here are some of my favorite French Halloween activities.
1. Use this Halloween write the room activity and have a scavenger hunt in your building.
Yes, write the room is great for using in your own classroom, but have you ever hung the cards up around the building? If your principal is okay with this, give it a try! Students will love moving around, and it’s a great way to recruit future French students. 🙂
2. Use the vocabulary with fun activities.
These fun activities are great for any Halloween mini-unit. Use them at centers, as homework, or as in-class activities. With no-prep speaking and writing activities to help students practice French Halloween vocabulary and different levels of activities, it’s easy to use this with multiple grade levels.

3. Listen to Halloween music.
I love listening to music in class, because it’s a great way to help kids retain new vocabulary. Plus, it is just fun! Kids love music, and music helps them remember, so it just makes sense to listen to it as much as possible.
C’est l’Halloween
This is a favorite of everyone at Halloween time! When I taught immersion, I heard kids humming it all through the month of October. It’s fun, catchy, and filled with vocabulary that is perfect for a Halloween unit.
Le Rock de la sorcière
This one is a lot of fun for an immersion classes or students who have more language proficiency. It’s fast, fun, and a little silly.
Pour faire une soupe
I shared this one in my French songs for fall list, but it’s perfect to use in October as a way to review French food vocabulary. It’s simple and a good listen for beginners.
And my son’s favorite :
La chanson des squelettes
This one is super-catchy! It’s perfect for beginners learning time, numbers, and basic actions. They won’t understand everything, so just challenge them to listen for words they know.

4. Play Bingo!
Who doesn’t love bingo? It’s fun for practicing vocabulary, and you can even use it as a party game. Everything you need is here in my Halloween Bingo game. Includes 35 bingo boards, calling cards, and image-based calling cards for younger learners.

5. Write creatively.
Whether you do individual writing, round robin stories, or do a snowball activity, Halloween writing is so much fun!
One really fun activity for more advanced students is I see…I think… I wonder. Here’s how you do it.
Show students a Halloween-themed picture such as a haunted house, a bowl of candy, or a group of trick-or-treaters.
On your board, write
Je vois…
Je pense…
Je me demande…
Have them complete each sentence as many times as they can with their thoughts. Once they have lists completed, you can have them share their ideas with a partner, and even extend the learning further by having them create a story or a skit, either in groups or on their own.
