Looking for French songs your teens will love? I’ve got you covered! It’s so important to play current music in class, because we want to encourage our students to listen to French when they’re not with us. The best way to do that is through music, because it’s easily accessible and it’s something kids won’t see as work. It’s a great way to help students discover Francophone culture as they pick up new words they’ll never learn in a textbook!
Here are a few French songs I’m loving right now!
While I only share things I feel are appropriate, I ask that you please make sure these French songs are appropriate for your students and your school before playing them in class. You know your students best!
Résister – Slimane
This song is not only beautiful, but it’s got such an important message that is timeless but is especially relevant right now. It’s got a universal message that seeks to unite all of us and the setting of this video is absolutely stunning.
Je pense à vous – Linh
This one is for the Cœur de Pirate fans who love the mix of piano music and a beautiful voice. As someone who has spent a lot of time living very far from my parents, this one hits right at my heart. This would be good to add to your list of French songs to play in an advanced class with older students. Use it along with a writing prompt about missing someone and you’ve covered a lot of skills in one class period.
Un dos tres – Kendju Girac
Not gonna lie, this song is on here because I loved the original way back when! However, while the refrain is the same as the Ricky Martin song from the 90s, he has changed up the rest of the lyrics. It’s a fun summertime song that kids will love, and it’s always fun to watch a concert, even if it’s just in a music video!
Casa – Ouidad
This is on my list of French songs for both the music and the beautiful video. I think there’s no better way to expose students to Francophone culture than through music, and in this video, she shares some of her Moroccan culture. It’s a great way to help students visualize the clothing, dance, and food of a place they may not be too familiar with.
Tema love -Soprano
This song is fun and upbeat, and I’ve never had a class who didn’t love his music! It’s a fun one to add to your playlist, and if you want to have a little fun, you could have students come up with funny ways to complete “tema.” I’m sure they can write some pretty fun lyrics of their own.
Sois pas timide – Gims
Gims pretty much makes every song list for me, because he’s so talented and kids love his music so much. Whether you put it on a playlist to listen to during some downtime, you watch the video, or check out the lyrics, you can’t go wrong with his songs.
Triste – Amel Bent
I really like this song, because it’s really important for all of us to acknowledge our feelings and be able talk about them if we wish to. Sometimes it can be hard to put feelings into words, and with her song and her soulful voice, she really captures it here. I’m a huge fan of any song she records, and this one is no exception!
I hope you found some new French songs to play in your class soon!

Thank you for this awesome list! I’m French and I teach French, but I don’t listen to this type of music, so I struggle when my pupils ask for songs. I will use these over the next few weeks. Thank you for your work!! 🙂
