Teaching the French environment unit is one of my favorites with intermediate-level French students! It’s a fun and engaging way to increase their vocabulary and practice with a vocabulary theme that will be completely different from the typical lists they’ve been seeing! Want them to think critically, problem solve, and engage in meaningful conversations while you support your science teacher in a cross-curricular unit? This is it!
This French environment unit is perfect for secondary French students who have had at least two years of French. I modeled a lot of the activities off of those I used when I taught 7th grade French immersion, but they are perfect for core French classes, too!
This French grammar & vocabulary unit is perfect to teach and reinforce:
- French environment vocabulary
- French subjunctive conjugations of regular & irregular verbs
- Uses of the French subjunctive
- Speaking and listening
- Reading comprehension
- Critical thinking skills
Start with the French environment vocabulary presentation.
These no-prep slides for PowerPoint™️ and Google Slides™️ make presenting vocabulary so easy! With clear graphics and animated text, you’re all set to just project and present! You can change the animated text if you want to change any of the terms or the answers to the practice questions.
Students will love the visual representation as they learn the new words. You can use the slides to present new words and the practice questions at the end will help you check for understanding and help you get students to apply the new words.

Save time with the no-prep worksheets for student practice!
The time-saving worksheets are a simple and easy way for them to practice useful vocabulary that will enable them to speak and write about all sorts of environmental issues. With activities to practice vocabulary and French grammar, it’s a full themed unit that is perfect for putting French verbs into context!
The included speaking activities help you get even the most hesitant students to speak French. With partnered work to practice the vocabulary, they’ll see, hear, and say the words in a way that is not intimidating to students who might get embarrassed about talking in front of the class.
With a few short reading passages and a reading comprehension activity, it’s the perfect way to introduce them to non-fiction reading while still providing the support they need at this level.

Review vocabulary with a fun game they’ll love!
I’ve never had a group of French students who didn’t love Bingo! It’s not just for young kids or practicing numbers, either! This fun game is the perfect way to review vocabulary and practice listening skills on a day when you and your students just need to practice and have fun! They’ll love competing against classmates to fill out their Bingo boards first!

Get them speaking and engaging in meaningful conversations with these easy-to-use French speaking prompts.
Teachers absolutely love my French speaking prompts, because it takes all the pressure off of them during a busy class period! They can use the questions for one of the structured speaking activities included in the resource, pass out a few at a time to small groups to discuss, or just ask a few questions from the master list of questions any time they have a few minutes left of class. These cards, along with the speaking activities in the student packet, will provide a lot of important speaking practice!

Practice vocabulary with these fun self-checking cards!
Students love Boom Cards™️ because the self-checking feature means they get instant feedback as they play! No need to wait for the teacher to grade homework pages, because they’ll know exactly how they’re doing as they practice.
With over 40 cards to practice vocabulary and spelling, they’ll love the variety of activities! From drag and drop to practice spelling and meaning to multiple choice to practice basic recall, they’ll get plenty of practice!
You can use these as individual assignments or on your interactive whiteboard for a fun, whole-class activity. Have learning centres in your classroom? These are a perfect activity for extra practice or fast finishers.
