French Diwali resources to increase cultural awareness

Looking for French Diwali resources for your core or immersion classes? You’re in the right place! If you’ve been around here for a while, then you know that I love seasonal resources as a way to teach vocabulary with meaningful activities. It’s even better when those seasonal resources can help your students understand a bit about another culture, right?

These French Diwali worksheets are the perfect no-prep way to introduce Diwali to your Core French or French immersion classes. The easy-to-use vocabulary activities are just right for beginners, but with a range of activities, you can use this with more advanced classes, too!

The included reading activities will help students understand Diwali as they learn new vocabulary in context. Use the full-French reading passage for more advanced students and with your immersion classes and provide extra support for your beginners with the included English reading activity.

French students will love learning about Diwali through these reading comprehension and French vocabulary activities. They’ll see some words they probably know, like le cadeau, but they’ll learn some new words related to Diwali and Indian culture, like le rangoli and le paon. It’s a fun way to expose them to words they’ll probably never learn from a textbook!

Get them speaking with this easy-to-use French speaking activity that even your beginning French students can do! Just pair them up and have them tell their partners what they see on their sheets. They’ll appreciate the easy-to-follow structure and the small group activity is perfect for students who are hesitant to speak in front of the class.

Love using seasonal activities but also want to keep progressing with the skills your students are already doing? The French Diwali-themed color-by-code activities are a fun way to review verbs and vocabulary with a fun theme. These are perfect for fast finishers or for a quiet activity after a test or quiz. My high schoolers always asked for coloring activities after quizzes!
